THE POSITION

The Head of the US Customs Brokerage will be responsible for the overall performance of this business unit. This includes achieving profitability goals and operational excellence standards in all customs clearance processes. He/She must ensure absolute compliance with CBP requirements and regulations while fostering strong relationships with customs authorities and other partner government agencies. This role focuses on managing the full P&L of this business, developing both operations and compliance teams, defining operational processes and controls, ensure existing customer happiness and support sales initiatives.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Operational excellence in Customs Clearance processes ensuring full Compliance: Oversee customs clearance processes, ensuring compliance with US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations. Prepare and submit necessary documentation and mitigate compliance risks.
  • Foster and Maintain a Good Relationship with CBP: Cultivate professional relationships with CBP officials to facilitate smoother interactions and solve any problems related to the customs clearance process. Build a strong reputation with all relevant authorities.
  • Develop the business unit strategic initiatives: Define competitive advantages and build strengths. Minimize internal weaknesses, identify and manage external threats. Identify external opportunities, develop go to market strategy with the sales organization.
  • Maintain a Healthy P&L: Monitor and manage the Profit & Loss statement, implementing cost control measures and identifying revenue opportunities.
  • Develop Compliance/Classification Teams: Build and lead teams dedicated to customs compliance and accurate tariff classifications. Provide training and support to ensure team effectiveness.
  • Define and Implement Operational Controls: Establish and enforce operational controls to ensure efficiency and accuracy in customs-related processes.
  • Support Consultative Sales of the Business Unit: Collaborate with the sales team to provide expert advice and support, understanding client needs and offering tailored solutions.
  • Elevate the Quality of Service to External/Internal Customers: Continuously improve service quality by addressing customer feedback and resolving issues promptly.
  • Develop Institutional Relationships and Industry Leadership: Engage with industry bodies and stakeholders to position the company as a leader in the customs brokerage industry.
  • Conduct HTS Classification and Manage Bonded Carrier Transactions: Accurately classify goods using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) and manage bonded carrier transactions.
  • Implement Cost-Reduction Strategies and Minimize Duties Through Trade Agreements: Identify opportunities to reduce costs and minimize duties by leveraging trade agreements and cost-saving measures.

THE CANDIDATE

  • Licensed Customs Broker with extensive experience in US customs procedures.
  • Fluent in both English and Spanish.
  • High IQ (intellectual), XQ (execution), EQ (emotional) and TQ (technology).
  • Strategic thinker and planner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including servant leadership and interdepartmental influence.
  • Excellent communicator, capable of participating in sales processes.
  • Highly organized and strict with customs compliance.
  • Proactive, empathetic, and able to work synergistically.
  • Experience across various industries and familiarity with American corporate environments.
  • Strong knowledge of tariff classification, duty rates, and related regulations.
  • Proficiency in automated processing systems and customs software.
