Proposal Writer Internship

 

ROLE DESCRIPTION

 

The Proposal Writer will transform the first draft of a proposal narrative into a completed narrative, perform copy editing tasks, and tackle other writing and editing responsibilities assigned by the team. This role will provide support in refining the quality of written proposals by ensuring clarity, conciseness, consistency, and grammatical accuracy.

 

Role Responsibilities include:

  • Editing draft narratives to improve the quality of the English. This will include:
    • Improving grammar, spelling, punctuation, and overall clarity
    • Improving sentence structure (with an emphasis on conciseness)
    • Replacing needlessly obscure words with more accessible ones
    • Eliminating needless duplication of content
    • Ensuring that a specified naming convention is followed across all narratives
    • Otherwise improving readability
    • Realizing a similar writing style across multiple narratives
  • Revising drafts to meet any specific requirements for narrative structure as specified in the narrative instruction; in the absence of such requirements, ensuring that the sequencing of topics presented follows the implied sequencing.
  • Using Alstom Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to assist with editing (e.g., to shorten narratives without eliminating meaningful content).
  • Identifying use of overly abstract or vague language and soliciting input from Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to render the language more concrete.
  • Contacting the appropriate SME as needed to solicit input ensuring full responsiveness to all elements of the narrative instruction.
  • Raising comments for original authors where text is unclear but subject matter expertise is required for resolution.
  • Becoming familiar with the win themes and introducing them in the appropriate places in the narrative.
  • Identifying content in the draft that is believed to be factually incorrect and/or inconsistent with other material presented in the draft; contacting the appropriate SME, querying them about the problems, and effecting resolution based on SME feedback.
  • Following up with SMEs to ensure their contributions are provided on time. This can be achieved by means such as email exchanges or organizing and convening one-on-one meetings.
  • Participating in group reviews of narratives, documenting proposed changes, and implementing them subsequently.
  • Performing other writing and copy editing tasks as assigned.
  • Meeting tight timelines.
  • Attending and participating in touchpoints or meetings.
  • Receiving direction from, and providing status reports to, Alstom’s Senior Technical Writer.

  • Ability to meet tight timelines
  • Enrolled in college/university
  • Experience with AI tools (nice-to-have)
