Job Description UC Elkus Ranch provides educational opportunities for Bay Area youth. This position works primarily with school-aged children in direct, hands-on environmental educational program. Job duties include: leading lessons and activities in animal science, gardening, environmental science, recycling, natural history, and farm tours.
This position is a limited appointment that is 40% variable, and ends 06/30/26 with the possibility of extension if funding permits.
Pay Scale: $24.62/hour to $32.38/hour

Key Responsibilities: 50% Program Delivery: Deliver educational ranch tours (including agriculture, animal husbandry, horticulture, nutrition, and environmental science programs) primarily to school-aged children and manage community service/volunteer groups.
35% Maintain gardens, perform livestock chores (including cleaning & upkeep of enclosures and barns), and manage / update educational exhibits.
5% Collect and input statistical data and provide general office and program support.
5% Assist with social media postings to document program activities and general updates.
5% Participate in approved training opportunities, updates, and staff meetings.
Requirements: - High school diploma and / or equivalent certification / experience / training
- Coursework or work experience in related area.
- Continuing education in related field required.
- Education and/or experience in one or more of the following areas: environmental education, working with school age children, working with livestock, gardening background.
- Ability to communicate effectively and maintain positive interaction with diverse audiences.
- Ability to work cooperatively and independently with minimum supervision.
- Ability to work with people from all socioeconomic levels and ethnic backgrounds.
Preferred Skills: - Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite software (Word, Excel, Publisher).
- Bilingual skills in English and Spanish / Mandarin or other languages.
- Social media posting skills such as FB, Instagram, etc.
Special Conditions of Employment: - Must comply with regulatory agency reporting requirements (California's Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act).
- Must possess valid California Driver's License to drive a County or University vehicle. Ability and means to travel on a flexible schedule as needed, proof of liability damage insurance on vehicle used is required. Reimbursement of job-related travel will be reimbursed according to University policies.
